<weak> Union </weak>

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I will call for perjury charges if President Bush declares, “The state of the union is strong.”

The real state of America is weakened. Not weak, just weakened. Mr. President, you have been preoccupied with Iraq and other international entanglements that Americans don’t desire.

National security is not a concern (we just want out of Iraq by yesterday) when a tsunami of consequences from bad federal policies is about to hit American’s daily lives. These issues are not the fault of the American people, but those who mismanage our government.

Since you haven’t noticed, let me share a few of my concerns: the swelling national deficit, the severe trade imbalance, our foreign energy dependence, a failing public school system, the continued erosion of the middle class, rising health care costs, the attrition of fair use in intellectual property rights, internet neutrality, illegal immigration, adherence to the Geneva Convention by our military, federal indifference to conservation, and increasing inability to afford a home, among others.

Quote: Do-Nothing Religion

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Any religion that professes to be concerned about the souls of men and not concerned about the city government that damns the soul, the economic conditions that corrupt the soul, the slum conditions, the social evils that cripple the soul, is a dry, dead, do-nothing religion in need of new blood. — Dr. Martin Luther King to his congregation at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta in 1962.
