T-Mobile: Get More. Not.

My T-Mobile bill was greeted with my shock this evening. Apparently I went 117 minutes over my minute allotment last month. Sprint’s coverage in LA is not spectacular and Arthur & I relied on my phone while on the apartment hunt. This more than doubled my bill. I paid more in overages than for my service plan.
I called T-Mobile seeking a pass, a weak link in the customer service system, someone who would give me a break. I typically only use half of the minutes in my plan. I always pay my bill on time. I’ve stayed a T-Mobile customer well past my contract. However, I have decided to jump ship to Cingular as soon as Apple releases its iPhone because the T-Mobile representative that I spoke with tonight was rude… in addition to not giving me a pass.

When I had no phone or DSL after Hurricane Wilma last year, I used my Cingular phone as a Bluetooth modem to get online to check my email. I used it for one week and I was online for a total of less than an hour, but I ended up with a bill of over $400 due to the amount of data transferred.
I’ve had this happen a few times with verizon… Mostly while apartment hunting in LA! (On a side note, hopefully you had better luck getting landlords to return calls!)
Each time my bill more then doubled and I would call Verizon to try and get something off or what not. NOTHING these people are completely unwilling to budge or help customers in any way…
Also yesterday here in Santa Monica we had a cell outage for most of the morning. I called verizon and they said it was Scheduled downtime! Who schedules downtime for a WEEKDAY MORNING! I LOST business because of this, and yet they REFUSED to do anything to help!
And why wonder why they can’t keep cell customers! I’ll be changing as soon as my contract is up!
That totally sucks. But honestly, Cingular is no better, and probably worse than T-Mo when it comes to customer service. The grass is not always greener ;)
You may also want to stick with T-Mo for a bit. The new rumor is T-Mo will get the iPhone not Cingular.
So I’ve heard. But, and this is a big but, Apple uses Cingular corporately.
T-Mobile’s new 5 myFaves plan is rather attractive too. The only person I call regularly with my phone is Arthur, but he’s on Sprint (which I refuse to join).
All telecommunications companies are inherently evil….
But I use T-Mobile since in the grand scheme of things, they are slightly less evil than Cingular and considerably less evil than Sprint.
