As long as we’re on the topic of improper usage, I heard someone say the other day, “Should I get an Apple?”

I later figured this wouldn’t strike anyone as odd, particularly with ad camaigns like “Dude, you’re getting a Dell”.

I always thought the first Mac in your list was for someone named “Mark” and the guy had a Boston accent so he dropped the r (e.g. “Hey Mak, I gotta go pahk dah cah neah Hahvad Yahd.”).

It has a couple of other uses too.

1. (Mac) Used as a familiar form of address to a (male) stranger. As in “Hey, Mac move your car!”

2. (MAC) A system of encoding and broadcasting television signals, esp. for satellite television.

3. (mac) A nickname for a waterproof rubberized full length coat, a Mackintosh

4. (mac) A description of a roadway surface, a shortened version of macadamized or tarmac.

It always really irritates me when people write MAC when they’re referring to a Mac (or calling Apple “MAC”). Don’t forget MAC also refers to an Ethernet hardware address :)

And the Apple Store is to not be confused with the MAC Store, even though you might find cute queers in both locations, and the maybe even a drag queen.
