Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom, and then lost it, have never known it again.

Some said that I seemed a bit bitter after losing to inferiority at The 25th Annual EVVY Awards. I’m not upset, just boggled. I don’t say this out of hubris, but I know that I’m one of the best graphic and web designers / developers / producers on campus. I can admit when I’m out-pixeled, but I absolutely do not understand how Robin Hoyt and A Look Inside Robin Hoyt at RobinHoytDotCom beat my entries.
Thus, I present to you, the EVVY judges for Best Website:
And now, the EVVY judges for Best Interactive:
CO2: We Call It “Life”: I could hardly stop laughing at these commercials, until I found out that they were funded by Exxon and were serious.
Mark: It messes with my circadian rhythm.
Arthur: Is that when you put your legs together and rub?
Mark: That’s cicada rhythm.
The sun in shining. My apartment isn’t a total mess. The air smells like spring. I’m surrounded by friends. My jobs for the summer are secured. I’m inspired on a few web projects. Life is upbeat.

Let’s just say that the judging results angered me to the point of nearly abandoning my Graphics AD position ten-minutes before the Evening Show started. Fortunately, the Chyron Op was an hour late to crew lock down and I had to fill in for him.
I figured that the Hott Guys Calendar wouldn’t win. It’s hard to compete against starving children in third world countries. But Best Website and Best Interactive were clearly my categories to win.
I like Robin Hoyt and the look inside of Robin Hoyt at RobinHoytDotCom and I appreciate her shout-out, but I know that I should have beaten her personal website in both categories. It was a fluke that aesthetic and technical superiority didn’t win (again for the third year in a row). If anything, Plants Have Feelings Too should not only have been nominated over RobinHoytDotCom, but beaten both of us in Best Interactive.
The EVVY Judges clearly failed their task again.

I just want to flip my weather widget, look at the climate somewhere exotic, and pretend I’m there.
