Be Imperialist Today

In support of the federally approved Columbus Day, I urge you to enjoy the privileges of the man that started American Imperialism. Thank you Mr. Columbus for this fine day off from school.

My suggested observances:

LOL I was wondering about that myself today. Why do we celebrate a holiday that marks the beginning of European exploitation of the New World and the deaths of many many indigenous people? And besides, everyone knows that the Vikings were here hundreds of years before Columbus! :-)

I’ve missed your political entries, Jeremiah. Keep up the good work.

One of the two reasons I hate Columbus Day (the other being that the banks are closed)…

I also hate having Jackson on our $20 bill. So the man got us railroads. Anyone could have done that. He also was a flaming racist, a drunkard, a murderer (technically it was a duel, but he played dirty), and he instituted massive genocide against America’s indiginous peoples. Yeah, that’s the kind of guy we want immortalized on our currency…

  4. Caleb-
Let’s not forget the other men on our monies:
    1. George Washington: in addition to being the first president of the U.S., he was a slave owner.

    2. Thomas Jefferson: third president and also a slave owner (had a baby with one too).

This country is rife with hypocrisy. Even cronyism is a favourite presidential past time these days…
