Crouching Tiger, Hidden Launch Date

Apple finally announced Tiger! I admit with no shame that I spent over an hour this morning reading the entire Mac OS X.4 “Tiger” site. I am particularly interested in XGrid and Maya rendering. I hope someone develops a more eloquent solution once XGrid and Tiger reach the masses.
I cannot wait to wear my AtAT shirt and stand in line to enter the Apple Store for hours on release night with friends (like last time and last time).

i just went ahead and preordered it :) i may talk to you in the coming weeks about the best way to do a clean wipe to install tiger, since i’ve never done that to my mac. ps, i think i got my mom to buy a mac mini. i’m psyched to play with it :)
Jeremiah,
Hooray 4 Apple! :) I hope Tiger (Grrr!), is as good as the rest of the Mac OS’s… (though I don’t know myself, since I am still stuck with good ol’ Windows XP). I am looking forward to the next releases of Quick Time and iTunes! :) I sure hope VA gets a Mac store in Hillcat country! :)
Last 2x I’ve been to Apple Retail, they don’t offer education discounts on software (hardware, yes). If you preorder online, tho, you get Tiger for $70 and guaranteed delivery to your doorstep on April 29, most likely before the official 6pm launch date. But then, why deny the Boston community the opportunity to hobnob with everyone’s favorite switcher (for an extra $50?)…..
I will not be purchasing a copy, because of the reason you just mentioned. And if anyone from Apple is reading this, not having educational discounts on your own software in your own retail stores is really really really silly. I can understand not having it on third-party software, because most companies have special education serial numbers, etc.
Actually, folks, the retail stores DO provide education discounts– but only on hardware, not software, so it doesn’t really apply here. Dunno why it’s limited to hardware only, and I’m too lazy to find out. (I’m not a student, so what’s in it for me? Huh? Answer me that, College Boy!)
BTW, Jeremiah, I probably won’t be able to make it to Tiger Night, since Apple announced the Tiger release date the very day after I’d scheduled a meeting for the night of the 29th and as of yet I can’t reschedule. But hey, it’s early days, yet, so who knows?
