Those places

Boston skyline

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.
–Byron

My apartment’s location is near perfect. I am on the harbor, away from downtown, and 15-minutes from Emerson by subway. I love sitting on the large boulders along the harbor at night alone and just staring at the skyline, stars, and ocean. The cold air off the water smells so salty. The water soothingly laps the stone beach. Airplanes land distantly on the other side of the harbor. Boat lights seeming float into the ocean. This boulder is the closest place I have to nature. I can’t wait for summer to be here so that I can spend hours sitting on this boulder, mindlessly pondering whatever blows in my direction.

Hm, sounds much nicer than the cramped quarters of living two blocks from Purdue’s campus… My favorite escape is the top of our Wood Street parking garage (offering a great view of downtown).

Although the countryside, where I grew up, isn’t far away… I too cannot wait until summer. Fog, fireflies, peace, and quiet.
