Woz is Wrong
From MacNN: Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak hopes that Apple will drop its case against one student for illegally distributing early builds of Mac OS X Tiger.
Woz defending this college student who illegally distributed developer seeds of Apple’s next OS upgrade is like Jesse Jackson defending high school students who started a riot.
Choices have consequences. People defending people who have made stupid choices only amplifies the stupidity of the choice.

Jeremiah,
I found your site about a week ago purely by accident. The name rang a bell in the back of my mind so I clicked and figured it out.
I’ve got to say I’ve been pretty impressed and surprised by your blog. I think a lot of it I could have written myself.
I will say though that I’m going to disagree just a bit on this one. I had thought just like you originally until I read an interview with the student… that changed my perspective. This wasn’t a person whose intent was to do harm, they just did something dumb. The student was open and honest about it, didn’t even try to cover it up and is willing to pay damages.
Surely there is some settlement (possibly not even monetary) that could be reached out of court. This person (student) would probably never be able to pay back a multi-million dollar verdict anyway.
Comparing the Woz’s actions to Jesse’s is a bit harsh, I think. From the little I know of him, the Woz seems like such a nice man who gave something really great to the world. Jesse, on the other hand is a pretty angry man who, in the name of others, only serves himself.
Just my 2 cents.

I was reading the blog about the student that got busted for illegally releasing copies of Mac OS X Codename: Tiger. I’m surprised that he hasn’t got busted worse than he already has… He should have waited for it to come out like the rest of us.

I like Woz and am not fond of Jesse Jackson, but I think this student is playing the innocent “I didn’t know that it was wrong to steal” card. It’s hard to miss the warnings on the installers for OS pre-releases from what I’m told by friends who receive the developer releases legitimately.
