Emerson Tragedy in Red Sox Triumph

I learned of the death of Emerson College student Victoria Snelgrove during an SGA Senate meeting. I was then bombarded by reporters in the Little Building and Walker Building. One reporter even interrupted an admissions tour of the campus to ask if the students had an reactions to the death before most of the campus even knew about the tragedy. So I offer my reaction: Reporters, get off my campus and leave us alone. Let us mourn without microphones being shoved in our faces.

I must note that The Metro’s front page story of this tragedy is appropriate and I appreciate the professionalism and respect to my mourning campus.

This was a horrible, terrible tragedy…but why were these so-called students out on the streets at this late hour creating a riot-like situation, overturning cars, lighting fires, etc., that just begged for a police response? Violence begets violence. My heart goes out to the innocent girl who died and to her family and friends, but the blame for this lies with those “students” who were responsible for the needless violence. May their hearts hang forever heavy for their crime.

Yes, rioting and acting stupid is stupid. But there were no deaths inflicted by the rioters. The Boston Police Department used poor judgment and now an innocent young lady is dead.

I wonder if the officer responsible for this senseless death justifies it as a horrible misadventure while performing in the line of duty or does he daily deliberate in deep thought as to why he didn’t muster more restraint before discharging his non-lethal weapon. I could not live with myself if I accidently killed another person.
