Unproductivity

Thursday, September 9th, 2004

Stephen Greenwood stopped by Boston on his bus tour of America. Having not been back to San Diego since leaving, I especially enjoyed seeing him again.

After my EVVY Producer meeting Wednesday, we met up and headed off to be tourists. We perused the Common, Garden, State House, and ate at Faneuil Hall before heading off to our night life. Ushering for Blue Man Group and getting to see their Tubes show rewired was awesome. I highly recommend their checking out their rewired show. Bova’s beckoned us in the North End and the night ended with sugared goodness.

Today we slept. alot. and then headed to Harvard Square to wander and eventually eat at Fire + Ice. By the way, the movie-like advertisement on the Red Line for Carnival Cruise is *amazing*.

I wish Stephen could have stayed longer. I enjoyed talking high definition television, Christian compassion, new media, failed professors teaching, EVVYs, infective versus alternative media, politics, Macs, drinking in Europe, and producing film among other things. But all things must come to an end, especially this entry.

Frances can blow me

How to celebrate Jamie’s 21st birthday:

  1. Go to Chili’s during a hurricane.
  2. Decide to not endure the 2 hours wait because everyone in Tampa wants to eat at the only restaurant open.
  3. Attempt to get Chili’s to-go.
  4. Fail, because they ran out of to-go boxes.
  5. Go to Publix, buy lots of alcohol to make the margaritas that you couldn’t get at Chili’s.
  6. Go to Wendy’s in Jess’s car.
  7. Open the driver’s door to order because Jess’s window is broken.
  8. Chip Jess’s new paint job when the drive-thru window lady slams the door open so that Jess could get the drinks into the car.
  9. Shimmy back to Jamie’s house to endure the rest of the hurricane.
  10. Go to bed around 3 AM and get up at 4:50 AM to catch a 3-day-delayed flight.

Art & Design Producer

Sunday, September 5th, 2004

I am officially the Art & Design Producer for The 24th Annual EVVY Awards.

I am both excited and timid about the position. Save super-sophomore Skye (the loveliest of the Executive Producer team), there are few sophomore coordinators and producers. Also, my position is newly created after a significant reduction in producer positions. My hope is to establish a positive legacy of how stylistic elements of the show should be conceived and brought to production with synergy across all creative aspects of the show. This, of course, is far easier said than done.

Weather the Storm

My return flight to Boston this evening was cancelled because Frances will be pummeling Tampa by 2 AM.

In Tampa, the Airport does not close. However, flight operations may cease. What a delightful technicality…

The Columbi (plural for the Columbus family) is taking good care of me. We migrated to a larger room and are surviving together. Pictures soon.

edit: (insert 4 letter explicative) My flight has been cancelled again. I’ve been on hold for 20-minutes trying to get on another flight tomorrow.

edit 2: I’m not flying out until Tuesday and won’t get back until late afternoon. Bah…
