Moving, Shaking

Where did July go? And how is it nearly a third of the way through August? Time seemed to progress at the accepted normal pace this summer, but then something accelerated life.

The 23rd Annual EVVY Awards DVD is nearing completion. Producing the DVD has been an excellent opportunity to work with the executive producers for the 24th Annual EVVY Awards. But the time has come to duplicate these discs and ease into my unannounced producer position. More on that later.

NEPC’s site launched in time for the Democratic National Convention, but the reporters were too busy to post anything online. Look for recap video coverage in the next few weeks. I am also redesigning EIV and the EVVY Awards sites for launch by September 1. Emersive, the new media group I am starting at Emerson, is also launching by Orientation Week for incoming freshmen.

Labor Day Weekend should be fun. Song is transporting me to Tampa, FL for the marriage of my good friend Mark Lamb. I will be shooting the wedding video. Hopefully John will help me pick out a suit for the occasion on our upcoming Newbury Street Shopping Adventure.

Also on my plate: I am researching various routes to significantly boost my small business venture. I have tried twice to expand my new media production company, but I feel that the third time will be the charm with the added venture capital and the lessons learned. Hopefully I will be LLCed soon and on the road to fulfilling the capitalist dream.

    Hey -

As a college small business owner, I’m always interested in hearing what other entrepreneurs my age are up to. Hopefully you are LLCing in a small-business friendly state.

My company has been LLCed in my home state since 2000, and I go to school in New York. New York is a nightmare with rules and regulations.

What are you trying to do? Expand jeremiah.biz? And I remember reading something about a lost xServe… did that REALLY never get resolved?

I am most likely LLCing in Delaware.

My company has been LLCed in my home state since 2000, and I go to school in New York. New York is a nightmare with rules and regulations.

My permanent address, drivers license, voter registration, etc. are all in VA, but I do not actually reside there. Boston is home for now, but I will most likely be living in California in 3 years. Because I tend to be transient, I figured that I should just LLC in the state where most corporations are based out of: Delaware. I still need to figure out if I must obtain a “foreign” business license for Virginia since my company only does business in cyberspace.

I am also establishing my LLC so that the revenues are not filtered directly through to my taxable income. This would kill my financial aid!

Those details will be announced in appropriate time.

And I remember reading something about a lost xServe… did that REALLY never get resolved?

It got resolved, but not happily. I spoke with multiple lawyers who kindly advised me (without cost, out of pity) and all of them recommended that I not sue because I could be counter-sued for Mail Boxes Etc.’s legal fees (far more than the server cost) and because I had no proof that I actually dropped my server off there for pick-up.
