Curiously Jeremiah

Posted on Friday, June 11th, 2004 at 15:41.

Welcome to the first release of Curiously Jeremiah. Much of my blog is about my life: the events, people, and errata that makes existence notable. I am blessed (and sometimes plagued) by an intense curiosity about all aspects of the world. With every occasional scenery change, I evermore realize how much knowledge of self I have yet to obtain. Curiously Jeremiah encompasses this exploration through evolving environments and personal growth.

New features: My blog now supports trackbacks and user registration for comments.

Design info: Curiously Jeremiah is XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliant using a 100% CSS layout. This adherence to technical standards breaks compatibility with Internet Explorer and I could not care less. Microsoft only responds to reasonable requests through radical action. In my case, I willingly choose to alienate Internet Explorer users. Development priority was placed upon the data transfer from Movable Type to WordPress, thus the visual design is only 25% complete. Significant visual revisions are already in re-production.

Good for you? Share!

    I like it. Congrats!

  2. Bryan says:

The new design is certainly more colorful :-). I tried to trackback to this entry and ExpressionEngine told me the trackback ping was denied. Not sure what the problem is.

Contrats! I just made the jump to wordpress also, though I did not have a chance to develop snazzy WP templates first. That’s the next step. I just got so sick of Movable Type though–it really started wigging out after I deployed my months-in-the-making MT templates. I got so fed up that I jumped ship.

Oh, and a shout out to Virginia. I’m from 45 miles due east–Lexington!

    Test
Testing Schwegies claims via an open pinger script

  5. Jeremiah says:

    Hey Bryan,

I used a Trackback tester and, as appearing above, the trackback worked.

  6. Tom says:

Rock on Jeremiah. I like the new design. Glad you found a blog application that worked for you.

  7. ryan says:

    congrats :)
yet again i am able to further enjoy the life of jeremiah even when i am still miles away from my best friend…
    thank you!

  8. Bryan says:

Ok I think the ping worked this time, at least I didn’t get a rejection error, but it’s not showing up on here, at least yet. Maybe you have to screen them first? But another little thing, on the Atom feed, I’m only getting titles, no story, in NetNewsWire 1.09b. :-)

  9. chris says:

i just realized that should be “45 miles due west–Lexington”. Whoops

  10. stew says:

Great job! I am all for breaking compatability with Internet Explorer too! I absolutely adore Mozilla Firefox. Now if I could just finish my layout…

  11. abigail says:

    wow.

    thats all :)

  12. Christopher says:

hey hey hey, likin’ it very much! I enjoy the “I’m not a Microsoft zealot line.” Well, you convinced me to make the switch, it is done. However if you could make the menu on the left delay just a little bit, I’d love it even more. :o)-

Stop acting like a jerk, Jeremy! Remove your stupid warning about using MSIE. I can’t see that using your recommended browser adds anything at all to the experience of your website, such as it is. There’s nothing worse on the web these days than a pitiable browser snob. Enjoy the rest of your day!

  14. b mills says:

And, while you’re at it, why not delete some of these silly sycophants?

  15. b mills says:

Along with all those irritating smily faces.

  16. Jeremiah says:

B Mills: First, my name is Jeremiah. Not Jeremy.

My layout and PNG background completely misrender in Internet Explorer. This is my personal website and I do not have to appeal to anyone, whether technically or content-wise.

I did have a great day, thanks.

  17. b mills says:

    You’re welcome.

  18. Jeremiah says:

I would argue that there is nothing worse on the web these days than a pitiable anonymous commenter who thinks he knows better than me.

  19. Jeremiah says:

Bryan: I asked the WordPress support forum and tested the feed in PulpFiction 1.0, an Atom/RSS aggregator, with perfect success of the Atom feed. My guess is that the problem is NetNewsWire, as it has not been updated since February and does not officially support Atom (save a buggy beta).

As far as trackbacks are concerned, I am not moderating them. If you ping me, it should work. I have tested using an off-server pinger and through Movable Type. I will look into compatibility issues with ExpressionEngine.

  20. trackback test
this is just a test for trackbacks for my new blogging software. Check this out…

  21. Bryan says:

Ok, yes. It may be NetNewsWire then. I know Adam and I had the same issue with your Atom feed, altough mine from ExpressionEngine seem to work fine in NNW. I’ll just use the RSS feed for now since I get the whole story with that one.

Trackback issue is very strange. I’ll ask in the pMachine forums as well to see if there’s anything they can think of.

  22. blog.bryan says:

    Just a little trackback test!
Just testing to see if I can actually trackback to Jeremiah's site.

  23. blog.bryan says:

    Great Weekend
I had a great weekend in Virginia. I won't bother to talk about it since a great recap was done by Ryan so check out his blog for all the details.

Also, Jeremiah updated the design of his site and he completed his transition from Movable Type to…

  24. Bryan says:

Ok so apparently trackbacks work now! So off to figure out the Atom feed issue with NNW, or rather report a bug. Ok, enough of playing tech support on J’s blog…. ::scampers away:: ;-)

  25. b mills says:

Bryan, will you please just shut up!?!?!?

  26. Jeremiah says:

B Mills, I don’t know who you are, but Bryan is a very good friend of mine and I do not appreciate your attitude towards him or me. Issues are most certain to arise when using a new system and I appreciate his feedback.

  27. Jeremiah says:

Okay, the problem *was* NetNewsWire. Upon posting five new entries and not changing a single line of code in the Atom generator, NetNewsWire suddenly displays the post content. I have now enabled summaries in the RSS feed.

  28. Mike says:

It looks great! I’m also planning to switch from MT to WordPress.

  29. Robert says:

You’re that annoying kid from those “Swish” commercials, aren’t you? Aren’t your 15 minutes of fame over yet?
