Hand Me Down Night 2004
I left Hand Me Down Night 2004 early because I have sooo much work to do. A quick recap: I received an award for my position as Visual & Media Arts Senator for the Student Government Association this semester. More importantly, I presented the distinguished Emersonian of the Year Award and Advisor of the Year Award. Then I danced with my ladies from Freshman Class Council. ‘Twas fun!

In the extended entry is my speech for 2004 Advisor of the Year, Pete Chvany, whom I adore.
2004 Advisor of the Year Award Introduction
The reputation Emerson graduates carry into their industries of study for experience, professionalism, talent, and zeal is only achieved through an active embrace of opportunities available outside of Emerson’s classes. This organization’s advisor truly involves and inspires. Through his sometimes humorous, and sometimes frightening, anecdotes, students are drawn into an organization where they will be challenged and forced to produce under intense demands, but above all, they will be pushed beyond their wildest expectations.
One of the nominators says of his advisor, He tells it like it is. There is no sugar coating, as there is no sugar coating in the real world. He treats us like professionals and he expects the same from us.
This sometimes-tough love has resulted in an industry recognized organization and continual recognition of Emerson College as one of the top visual and media arts colleges in the United States.
An incredible amount of commitment, effort, wisdom, and maybe even a few flying chairs are required to successfully organize nearly 200 students each year for the production of The EVVY Awards. With great pleasure and utmost respect, I present on behalf of the Student Government Association, Pete Chvany as 2004 Advisor of the Year.
