The Columbia Contingency

The loss of seven NASA astronauts and the space shuttle Columbia today is tragic news. While no more heroic than postal employees (despite President Bush’s comments), the shadow of this loss will leave NASA in the cold for quite awhile. I hardly feel that NASA is necessary anymore to the United States of America in its current form. Maybe this tragedy will stir Congress to restructure NASA to better suit today’s science frontiers (e.g. alternative energy sources, nutrition, anything biological).
