I refuse to believe Apple‘s engineers are as stupid as [Linus Torvalds] imagines them to be. After all, Linux hasn’t been able to do in almost ten years what [Mac OS X] has done in two. Apple has made UNIX useable by the masses. Aaron Adams vehementing to me in an IM (10/30/2002)

Chemistry Comes Alive! Sample Movies

For More Than Graphics

Special thanks to Mr. Shawn King for the opportunity to be on his show, Your Mac Life, last night. Catch the archive here.

A few thoughts that I did not get to mention last night: Some people would argue that because I deal with so much media, I am an artsy person who should be using a Mac anyway. Everything that I do on my Mac can be done in Windows using the same programs. My geek friends do not understand why I would choose hardware that is seemingly more expensive than comparable x86 hardware to run the same programs that I already used productively in Windows. The answer to that argument is Mac OS X. After nearly two years of being a Switcher, my Mac OS X experience has been nearly flawless. Explaining how an OS with many of the same features already in another OS is better than the other is difficult without guiding someone through the process of accomplishing daily tasks. I can do more with fewer steps and discover the process on my own easily in Mac OS X. These same people complain about Apple hardware. After using Mac OS X and never having any problems with the computer, I totally do not care about tinkering with the hardware anymore. The computer performs and never fails. Why touch it?

Annie is visiting the San Diego Vinoskeys today and tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to check out the Apple Store in San Diego on Friday in order to help her choose a computer for college.

Buy a Linux PC. At 2GHz, the only sound you can hear is the sound of the developer whining. Insanely Great Mac

Why is IDG using Windows?

Tuesday, October 29th, 2002

I missed the deadline for a free Exhibit Hall pass to Macworld Conference & Expo SF03 because the IDG web site forms kept returning ASP errors.

Hint to IDG from Dr. Evil: Think.
Hint to IDG from Apple: Think Different.
Hint to IDG from me: Don’t use a Microsoft technology on the web site of an Apple-oriented exposition and not have it work correctly.

Shout-out to Oliver Cameron for finishing his site.

One Mighty Typewriter

I’m InTuIt

With the arrival of Quicken 2003 and an insane, yet oh so delightful rush to have my 2002 taxes done by January 1, 2003, in order to meet Emerson College’s financial aide deadline, I spent my entire Saturday entering every transaction made at my bank in the last year. My biggest problem is declaring where all of the deposits I made came from. Maybe the I.R.S. will be able to help me should I be forced to suddenly care.

Legoland California is for youif you enjoy gum on your shoe, the illusion of short lines, a poor layout, and nothing entertaining for anyone over the age of seven. The only redeeming quality of this amusement park is Miniland. I am sure that you will be able to find something more interesting to do on your next Sunday afternoon.

My uncle decided to check out another great public library movie. As we consumed a piece of Costco pumpkin pie, Slaughterhouse-Five provided the food for thought. There probably was a profound statement or underlying theme in this movie, but I missed it. But Billie Pilgrim did "come unstuck in time."
