As I am getting settled in at my new SoCal location and exciting news is scarce, I will explain a few issues about the past more intensely.
Why am I in San Diego? After my financial aid with Emerson College evaporated like the mere thought of moisture in the Sahara, I decided to defer for a year from college. A new decision now needed attention: Do I continue to live at home or do I live on my own?
I defined two short-term goals for the next year. The first goal is one of personal development. I want to improve myself creatively, intellectually, mentally, physically, and spiritually to become five times what I am today. The second goal is worldly but necessary: save money.
Accomplishing the second goal can happen regardless of location. The first goal is the most difficult.
Logistics made staying at home far more practical, but would result in a retardation of goal one as I was very discontent with home life.
Leaving your home on good terms with your parents is a very Biblical practice. My parents are nescient, so my primary concern focused on my native siblings. Their well-being is questionable, but they are strong people and will benefit from being refined within the fire that engulfs them.
A deadlock tormented me at this point.
My Uncle Jon came to the rescue with wisdom that customarily oozes out of him. He invited me to live with his family in San Diego. Logistical issues disappeared and comfort intensified around the family problems while giving hopeful excitement to make this one rad year away from college.
So here I am. It’s a great place to be and it only gets better.
Greetings from San Diego! From the moment I arrived at my SoCal homestead with the music of Vanessa Carlton on the radio to the amazing afternoon surrounding me as I type this blog entry on my uncle’s Dull, excitement continues to build.
But first, major props to my Aunt Beth, Uncle Jon for opening their home to me.
I didn’t mentally prepare for this move as much as I logistically prepared. I’ll plead the California attitude and take life as it comes.
The tracking number Mail Boxes Etc. gave me is not a true UPS tracking number and therefore is of no use. When you have a $5k+ of stuff traveling across the country, you want to know its exact location and definite arrival date. Arg @ MBE.

Shout out to Professor Torrence at Liberty University and her 9 A.M. marketing class that I spoke to today.
Reading about myself in the media is a new thing for me. I thought that I would share some highlights:
Reformed Mac hater Jeremiah Cohick joins the youth brigade as he talks about being the only Mac user in his PC-using household.
Peter Cohen, MacCentral, 09/07/2002
(Ed: Thanks Mr. Cohen!)
Special bravery consideration has to go to students Jeremiah Cohick and Hamilton Morris. Neither fits the stereotype of a football player or a sitcom student – both look somewhat nerdy and talk about technology while smiling, which to the Kool Kids will undoubtedly mean “fresh meat.” Cohick is a reformed Mac basher who says, ‘Get out of your Windows world! It’s not worth it!’
Mac Journals, 09/09/2002.
(Ed: As I said in my response to MJ, I know that I’m not going to be on the cover of Men’s Health but calling me nerdy, fresh meat, etc. is just wrong! Wrong I say!)
Jeremiah Cohik offers our favorite new Switch commercial. Mr. Cohik [sic] is a young man who starts off by saying ‘I used to bash Macs, but that was more a move out of ignorance,’ a theme that many long-term Mac users will recognize from their own daily-interactions with PC users. It’s also a theme that will strike a chord with many a potential Switcher watching the commercial. At the end of the spot, he extols ‘Get out of your Windows world! It’s not worth it!’ This spot seems to be aimed at young people, and in a much different way than the now super-popular Ellen Weiss ads.
Bryan Chaffin, Mac Observer, 09/09/2002
(Ed: Why, Mac Observer, I like you too!)
The response at DBM, Mac Addict, and Mac Central forums has been so positive. Thanks for the support!
I like being a Switcher just for all the emails from Techno Talking Babes® who rank me beside Apple’s Middle Seat commercial star and above the Dell Dude.
Major props to Apple’s web department for fixing my horizonally stretched, egg-head picture on the click-to-play screen.
Hint, Hint: Being a Switcher is almost as kewl as being Slash-Dotted.
Don’t look at me that way. I’m going to enjoy my 15-minutes, er, 30-seconds of fame while it lasts.
About Daddy: My dad is a respectable guy and the Win2k machine that I built for him works okay (except for when he wants to play his golf games). I’m sure that if he had the money, he would buy a Mac. My missionary influences are starting to get to him. Maybe I need to buy my father an eMac with an apology note attached since I kinda dissed him in a national television commercial. Regardless, I love ya dad :)
The question everyone is asking: I wasn’t expecting the slew of e-mail or telephone calls that I received on Saturday. To save some time, here is how I was chosen for the Switch campaign: I emailed Apple my story. Ta-da!
Even a small town guy can tell his story and further prove that, yes, the Switchers *are* real people.
Life Post Windows: I may be a Mac man, but I have major respect for the open-source community. Many hermit hours of mine have been spent within the glory of Linux; Apache is my preferred web server; and I rarely browse with anything other than Mozilla. Apple’s implementation of open-source initiatives was one of the main draws for me to Mac OS X.
Just a reminder to all the ladies, give your special geek a 6-pack of his favorite caffeine-enhanced beverage sealed with a kiss. For the Techno Talking Babes®, e-mail me. :)
My pillow is calling me, so I’m off to dream of what it’s like to live as Charlie. I got a golden ticket and the candy bar tastes more like fruit than cocoa.

Once again, God makes my reality supercede my wildest imagination.
I went to bed last night knowing that when I awoke, millions of people would see my switcher commercial today. Only this dream would be based on truth.
Shout outs to Jacqui, Michael, The McCullas, Cody, Gordon, Eugenia, Erin, Janie, Chris, Jeremy, Joel, Lindsey, The Pearsons, Josh, Jamie, and the many extended family members. These are just a few of the rad people who have contacted me today.
I figure four walls are a step up for you right now.
Aunt Beth, in regards to the guest room where I will be residing in Cali
I really feel like changing the countdown below to hours until something incredibly rad happens. Now, I retreat into silence. ::giddy sly laugh::
