Reading is a spare time activity for me, so audio books have become one of my favorite bed-time pleasures when I’m too tired to read, but not tired enough to fall asleep. I finished Bill O’Reilly’s The O’Reilly Factor this weekend. While I respectfully disagree with several of his opinions, he is a brilliant man. The world would be a better place if people thought about issues just half as much as O’Reilly.
When somebody’s the best in anything, its worth your time.

My Power Mac G4 is now connected via IEEE 802.11b to my uncle’s DSL service!
I went to the RBCPC college group on Saturday night. Ken, the leader, did a great study on Romans 2. This chapter outlines one of the greatest problems in the Christian church today, particularly in America: presumption over repentance.
And special shout-out to my best bro-ha, Ryan. There is *nothing* that God’s grace cannot give you.
I don’t think those are clouds. The fog is just really high up today.
Uncle Jon (09/26/2002) in response to my comment that it was cloudy this morning on our way to Starbucks
So I found these pair of Nike shoes for $40. My shoe preference is New Balance or Sketchers, but I decided to deviate for this seemingly good deal. After three runs, the Nikes caused a blister that extends from the base of my foot to just above my ankle. Lesson learned.
The most interesting people visit my site. I love waking up each morning just to read the rad email I receive. The whole ordeal is so encouraging.
I’ve been reading through 1 & 2 Kings this week. The monotony is sometimes overwhelming. There are three types of kings: kings who did what was evil in the eyes of God, kings who served God but not completely, and righteous kings who pleased God. The difference between the kings was how much of their life they committed to God’s pleasing. The more committed, the more God blessed the king and his kingdom. My hope is that my commitment benefits everyone I encounter, just as the commitment of the righteous king blessed the entire kingdom.
This week just flew by. My work for Central VA Orthopaedics and Who is Melissa is almost done. Several people have now requested bids for new projects, so I might not be doing no-brainer work somewhere in the Von’s Shopping Center as I expected. Free-lancing is so unpredictable and I like the comfort of having a dedicated pay cheque every week but desdeving is a thrill for me.
I’m doing an interview with MacTeens.com today at 1 PM PT.
Because it’s California and everyone sues here. If you have a phone, you have a lawyer.

Saturday morning confirmed what I suspected. Eden actually resided in southern California, not in the Middle East. Okay, so I’m really just speculating but the perfect sunny days, the morning misty fog, and general lack of nagging insects is heavenly.
Every morning after walking Cameron and Emily (my two cousins) to school, my Aunt Beth and I hike up to Hill Top Community Park, run a mile on the track, conquer another hill, and power walk back down to the house. The routine is truly invigorating. In my attempt to become a Cali hottie, the local YMCA will be seeing me regularly starting sometime soon. And then the ladies who sent me fan email will have a little more to look at in a few months. :)
My biggest problem at the moment is a lack of warm weather clothing. I brought most of my shorts, short-sleeve shirts from VA with me to San Diego but expected to be able to buy more once I arrived. Surprisingly, all the stores here seem very seasonal and are only selling winter stuff. I have only purchased a few dress shirts, pants so far. Oh, I also indulged on a great deal on boxer-briefs.
Speaking of men’s underwear, I still have not reckoned the marketing strategy behind the pictures that clothing manufacturers put on the packaging of men’s underwear. Normal people don’t go to the beach wearing nothing but a-size-too-small pair of tighties. I guess the manufactures think that men will believe a washboard stomach and impeccable pecs are attainable wearing a specific underwear brand. If anyone from Hanes is reading this, shoot me an email.
Wa. Freakin’. Hoo. But God is good.

As I am getting settled in at my new SoCal location and exciting news is scarce, I will explain a few issues about the past more intensely.
This is Day 3 of the series.
Being a stranger or being stranger? It hit me. The moment of realization beyond mere comprehension hit me. I suddenly ceased to even amuse myself. I was not going to college this year and I was not leaving my Lynchburg home.
For the past six months, dreams of living in a place where no one knew me, no one particularly cared who I was, and being free to refine the definition of myself filled my imagination. The plan was going to happen when I arrived in Boston for college. The plans of mice and men often go awry as my plans did, though no rodents were harmed in the process.
Checking out of my Lynchburg lifestyle and heading West is allowing me to enjoy an experience similar to what I would have experienced in the original plan.
So what I did I leave behind to not be left behind? The bloodline (most notably Rachel, Josh, Jonathan, Meme & Papa, the Nichols); best buds (Mark, Rianna, Ryan); Blue Ridge Community Church & friends; good times (Sunday morning specialty coffee with Josh, Sunday night worship services, Tuesday night 1st Priority prayer meetings, Wednesday night dinners with Mark at Applebee’s, Friday night movies, chill time with the quad pod) are missed the most.
Living life in reverse ’cause that’s the way it works. All these definite maybes!

What happened during the last 12,960 minutes in Virginia? Ryan and I had our usual Friday (09/06/2002) movie night at the Cinemark Movies 10. Eight Legged Freaks topped the agenda as I hurriedly prepared. Prior to seeing the movie and at the expense of my favorite white shirt, I learned that polyester melts when exposed to high heat. Oh well, one less thing to pack. I don’t have much luck with jewelry either, but my fingers were feeling a little naked. Ryan and I stopped by Easter Island in Chandler’s Mountain Station. I found a great trinity thumb ring. Yippee!
Saturday was truly an emotional roller coaster. The thrill of my Switcher ad airing was matched by the shrill of my parents refusing to allow my native siblings and me to attend a special dinner with my Meme. The incompetency in the house was so thick that Rachel and I could barely cut a hole to escape through, but we did. After dinner with Ryan at Backyard Grill, we headed to see SwimFan and reluctantly headed back “home.” I caught a last minute iced mochaccino with Mark at V&T’s before heading to bed.
Sunday = WHOA! Blue Ridge Community Church once again awed me in how church can celebrate Christ through the arts. And even kewler is that a waitress that Mark and I had been talking to at Applebee’s came for the first time! BRCC’s Sunday afternoon baptism encouraged me to keep focused on actions that only have eternal value. And on Sunday night, I met this amazing L.U. grad student from Boston. I’m definitely looking forward to chillin’ with him when I return to Da Burg.
Check the archives for regular blogging and resume thinking at the next weekend after my Power Mac was traveling across the great U. S. of A. via FedEx.
Mark, Rachel, (the Rianna no show), Ryan, Shawn, and two of Mark’s friends relished a Friday (09/13/2002) movie night (Austin Powers, Dumb & Dumber, half of Oceans 11) and dinner at Applebee’s. Dad refused to let Rachel and me finish watching Oceans 11 because we would have gotten home after the ridiculous 11 PM curfew. At least the sparkling grape juice was good.
I headed back over to Mark’s apartment on Saturday night to burn 16 data CDs and finish watching Oceans 11, Austin Powers 2.
